GAVIOTA in the search for drone’s safety operations
PildoLabs cooperates with FADA-CATEC for the safe Integration of drone operations in a non cooperative environment
PildoLabs Galaica, its parent company PildoLabs, and the Centre for Advanced Aerospace Technologies, from the Andalusian Foundation for Aerospace Development (FADA-CATEC), are teaming together to develop systems and tools that enhance the integration of safe low level drone specific operations.
GAVIOTA project was funded by the ‘Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades’ under the call ‘Retos de Colaboración 2017’, and focuses on developing a concept of operations, and necessary technical solutions, to precisely manage and monitor a drone operation, in coordination with surrounding flying bodies, which could cause a conflict situation.
More specifically, the project pursues the following objectives:
- Foster the approval of specific drone operations through the provision of adequate surveillance means, by considering existing and future national/European regulations;
- Integrate on-board satellite technology for the provision of navigation and surveillance means and services;
- Develop a cost-effective ground detection system for non-cooperative aircraft, aiming to identify all flying objects surrounding the drone which could get into conflict with on-going operation;
- Develop navigation and surveillance operations and algorithms fed with information from on-board system and the ground detection system;
- Perform demonstration campaigns to validate and promote the developments in real operations.
Partners
The project will be carried out by a consortium formed by the aeronautical engineering companies Pildo Labs Galaica, Pildo Labs, and the Advanced Center for Aerospace Technologies (FADA-CATEC).
Financing
GAViOTA project is framed into the call ‘Retos de Colaboración 2017’ of the Spanish state program for research, development and innovation oriented to societal challenges, within the framework of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, 2013-2016.
The project is funded by the ‘Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades – Agencia Estatal de Investigación – Proyecto RTC-2017-6515-4’.
